Inca Trail Imperial Jungle – Machu Picchu

Day 1: Cusco – Abra Malaga – Santa Maria – Santa Teresa

We will leave the Imperial City of Cusco to head towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Here we will have the first breakfast, buffet style. (Optional)

We will continue with the trip to the Malaga pass (4 350 m.a.s.l.), the starting point of our biking tour. After the informative talk of our guide, we will give you the complete equipment for this type of activity.

We’ll start the descent by bike for three hours (55 km) to the town of Huamanmarca.

During the trip we will experience the beauty of the snow-capped mountains and the tropical forest, where our Amazon begins, crossing small streams.

In addition, we will enjoy the change from cold to tropical weather. Along the way there will be several stops to check bikes and equipment.

We will arrive at the town of Santa María (1,200 m.a.s.l.), where we will have lunch. Afterwards, we’ll have a private transport that will take us from Santa María to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo (one hour by car).

There, we’ll enjoy this special place.

Before leaving Santa Maria, we have the option of rafting on the Vilcanota River (US$ 35). This river offers category III and III+ rapids. To do this, you will be provided with category V helmets, windbreakers and life jackets.

This activity is available between the months of April and December. According to the Peruvian government, it is mandatory to know how to swim in order to do it.

  •  Minimum altitude: 1250 m.a.s.l. / 4691 ft.

DAY 2 : Santa Teresa – Hydroelectric – Aguas Calientes

After breakfast, we will start the zip line activity with one of the most trusted operators in the area. This activity is optional and lasts approximately two hours. (OPTIONAL ZIP LINE: US$ 40)

We will have a transport to the hydroelectric plant, where the government control is located, to enter the Machu Picchu National Park (Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu).

At this point we will start our trek towards the town of Aguas Calientes, passing through the sector called Intihuatana, a small archaeological site where the guide will give us an explanation.

Then we will continue to Inka Rakay, where we will enjoy our lunch. Throughout the journey we will have the opportunity to contemplate the majestic mountains of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu and other constructions at the top of the mountain.

We’ll finish the hike in the town of Aguas Calientes, where we’ll spend the third night.

DAY 3: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

This is the most important day of the tour to get to know one of the seven wonders of the world. The tour will start very early, to be able to appreciate the sunrise in the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.

Our day will start with the option of walking or taking the bus (US$ 12). Once inside the archaeological park, your guide will provide you with a two-hour tour inside the Inca city of Machu Picchu and its most important temples, such as the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, etc.

Afterwards you will be free to explore Machu Picchu on your own, and if you book in advance, climb Huayna Picchu (altitude: 2,800 meters above sea level) or Machu Picchu mountain (altitude: 3,082 meters above sea level).

There are only 400 tickets per day to climb one of these two mountains.

We also recommend taking advantage of this place to relax, meditate and unwind, taking advantage of the magical and spiritual energies of this great wonder.

Later you will return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Cusco
